Date:
Thursday, October 19, 2017 – 12:30

This event will run from 12:30 – 14:00. It will also be livestreamed

The Chancellor is faced with serious political and operational challenges in the Autumn budget.  This event will look at some of the services under the most pressure.

The event will launch the second edition of Performance Tracker, a data-driven analysis of the performance of key public services from the Institute for Government and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, with a response from Nicky Morgan MP.

A unique independent analysis, Performance Tracker uses more than 100 data series to shed light on the heated but opaque debate about whether our public services can make further efficiencies, or if they really are at breaking point.  This edition examines nine public services in depth, including those dominating the pre-Budget headlines:  prisons, hospitals, schools, police and UK Visas and Immigration.

Based on this analysis, we will lay out they key decisions facing the Chancellor in the upcoming budget.

Dr Emily Andrews, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Government, will present the key findings of the report. This will be followed by responses from Nicky Morgan MP, Chair of the Treasury Select Committee and Gillian Fawcett, Head of the Governments Faculty at CIPFA.

This event will be chaired by Julian McCrae, Deputy Director of the Institute for Government.
